WATERFALLS

During the wet season, Yunbenun (Magnetic Island) transforms into a lush and vibrant paradise, with nature in full bloom and waterfalls flowing with renewed energy. This season, typically from November to April, brings life to the island's landscapes as rainfall rejuvenates the flora and fauna. The waterfalls and flowing creeks come alive with water cascading down rocky cliffs, some flowing into the ocean. These natural wonders become an extra special part of an island escape for those looking to experience something unexpected.

COCKLE FALLS

Dog Shed Waterhole is the affectionate name Cockle Falls in known by, a single rock pool and small waterfall are located in dense bushland on the journey to West Point. These falls are popular with families and provide the perfect opportunity to unwind in nature.

Getting here: A short walk from the Magnetic Island Country Club in Picnic Bay, just past the Cockle Bay Road entrance, a dirt track near an old shed which signals the entrance.


ENDEAVOUR FALLS

The island’s most popular falls, Endeavour falls (Petersen Creek) is located in Arcadia. The falls are a firm local favourite and considered Magnetic Islands most easily accessible falls. A bush track runs alongside the falls and will lead you to a number a cascading rock pools

Getting here: Follow Endeavour Road up past the gate and you should hear water flowing on the left, there are several tracks which lead to different parts of the creek including a lower rock pool and an upper rock pool.


ENDEAVOUR CREEK

This waterhole is part of a creek that flows into the ocean once there has been enough rain for it to break through. It is a favourite local past time to slide down the sand dunes and into the creek. It's important to note that the stream runs through the privately owned Horseshoe Bay Nature Reserve, and trespassing is strictly prohibited. If in doubt, it's best to avoid entering the area.

Getting here: Navigate to the end of Swenson Street in Horseshoe Bay. There is a small parking area available. The public section of the creek separates this parking area from the beach. Alternatively, you can walk along Horseshoe Bay beach towards the west (away from the yachts) and cross over the dune.


GUSTAV CREEK

Although Gustav may not feature a waterfall, this 3.5km creek serves as one of the largest water catchments on the island. It has remained a well-loved destination for locals, who have always enjoyed the creek for swimming, fishing, and playing.

Getting here: Gustav Creek can be accessed via Mandalay Avenue, it runs through the hills and down to the Nelly Bay harbour.


HUNTINGFIELD FALLS

Huntingfield Bay is the last of Five Beach Bays on Magnetic Island, these falls cascade through a number of rock pools before before eventually merging into a creek and finding its way to the ocean.

Getting here: For the optimal experience, accessing Huntingfield Bay is most convenient via the ocean. Several tour companies offer experiences that include the bay, or you have the option to explore the area at your leisure using your own vessel.
