Magnetic Island Race Week
Magnetic Island Race Week is a lively annual event that attracts sailing enthusiasts and spectators, celebrating the island’s charm, community spirit, and festive vibe. Held during the first week of September, this premier sailing regatta features five days of thrilling racing around the island, with various classes, including monohulls and multihulls. Alongside the competition, the event is famous for its social activities, such as Peppers Deck Parties and a long lunch at Peppers Boardwalk Restaurant, which supports Liptember and The Mater Private Hospital.
Townsville Airport’s Father’s Day at Picnic Bay is a standout part of the event. This family-friendly celebration features markets, kids' activities, sandcastle competitions, mud crab races, and the crowd-favourite Great Inflatable Race. With live entertainment, a BBQ, and a bar at the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, the day creates a relaxed, festive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're into sailing or want to experience the island’s community spirit, Magnetic Island Race Week offers a wonderful mix of activities against this tropical paradise's stunning backdrop.
